I had a great 27th birthday! Although it was pretty quiet, Andy and I had a good time. He took me out for dinner to Mikano, a fancy seafood restaurant on Auckland's Harbour. It had a helicopter landing pad right outside the huge window wall and we got to watch several land and take off as we enjoyed a bottle of wine and a delicious dinner. We stopped at the Lenin bar on Princess Wharf for another glass of wine before ferrying back to Devonport where he made a brownie "cake".
The exciting news is that Andy got me a guitar!! I was totally surprised that he'd decided to do it (even though we'd considered getting one awhile back but had dismissed it) and I love it! It's a really nice Takamine with a natural wood front, dark wood back and a matte finish.
It's a huge challenge to learn how to play, but I'm making some progress... SLOWLY, but surely. One of the hardest parts was trimming my long nails short enough to play and getting my fingers used to the punishment of holding down the strings. I've got a few chords figured out and am working hard to make fast enough changes to actually play a song, but I started lessons this week, so I'm looking forward playing some decent music soon!
Wish me luck... happy birthday to me!
